Reformation Sermon Series - October 1st to October 29th, 2017
SolasThis series celebrates the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, focusing on the Five Solas (or Five Alone phrases) of the Reformation.  The Solas center around Christ alone, who saves us by grace alone, which we receive through faith alone, which we know because of Scripture alone. This reality leads us to live to God's glory alone!  If you miss a sermon, listen online.

                         New GriefShare Cycle - Fall 2017
                  Monday evenings, starting October 23rd
                 Tuesday afternoons, starting October 24th

GS Logo DK GreenA new GriefShare Cycle will begin at St. John Lutheran Church, 2580 Mt. Rose Ave, York, on Monday, October 23rd, from 7:00 to 8:45pm, and again on Tuesday, October 24th, from 1:30 to 3:15pm, in the Fellowship Hall.  Each session in the cycle includes a video presentation and a group discussion.  A workbook that reinforces the weekly classes is included with a suggested donation of $15 for the book.  Grief has no time limit.  Grieving individuals are welcome to come at any time, but encouraged to attend this first session on Monday evening or Tuesday afternoon.  For more info, contact Denise Wright, Director of Spiritual Growth, at 840-0382, or visit our GriefShare ministry page.



                      Fall Festival 2017 - "Batty for Jesus"

                   Saturday, October 28th, 4pm to 6pm

battySt. John Lutheran Church will host an outside Fall Festival on Saturday, October 28th, from 4pm to 6pm at the church.  The event is for families and kids of all ages and includes: Games, an Obstacle Course, a Hay Ride, Pumpkin Painting, Food, Crafts, and a Costume Contest.  Kids are encouraged to dress in fun, non-scary costumes.  This is an alternative to our annual Trunk or Treat event.  Lots of candy.  No sign-ups required.


Pro-Wrestling returns to St. John - Saturday, November 4th

St. John Lutheran Church will be joining with Susquehanna Wrestling Organization (sWO) and WWWA for an action packed night of wrestling for the whole family.  The show will feature international superstar Matt Sydal.  Proceeds will benefit St. John's future Backpack Ministry.  Doors open at 5:30pm.  Bell time is 7pm.  Online tickets available.  Or call (717) 968-3838 for tickets and info.  Ringside tickets - $15, Advanced General Admission - $10, General Admission at the Door - $12.  To donate and support the Backpack Ministry, visit Support the Preacher Creature.




   Candle Light Service of Remembrance - Nov 5th, 2017

Rose Ave, will have a Candle Light Service of Remembrance on Sunday, November 5th, at 4pm.  The service will include Scripture readings, songs and hymns, and a candle lighting observance to remember loved ones and to remind us of the presence of Christ in our lives.  Fellowship and light refreshments will be shared in the Fellowship Hall after the service.  For more info, call the church office at (717) 840-0382.


 

                Holiday Bazaar - November 11th, 2017
scan0004St. John Lutheran Church, 2580 Mt. Rose Avenue, York, will hold its 6th annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 11th, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Our gym will be filled with handcrafted and decorative items including floral, jewelry, wreaths, ornaments, and sewn and crocheted pieces. A "New-to-You" area will provide shoppers with a bargain.

 

Baked goods, jams, chicken corn soup, pork BBQs, and quiche will be for sale in the cafe area.  Profits will benefit the St. John Youth Group, Missions Projects, and Radio Station 106.1FM.   This event is supported by Thrivent Financial.


 

     Holiday GriefShare - November 13th and 14th, 2017

GS Logo DK Green"Surviving the Holidays" a GriefShare Event, will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 2580 Mt. Rose Ave. York, on Monday, November 13th, beginning at 7:00 pm, and again on Tuesday, November 14th at 1:30pm, in the Fellowship Hall.  The holiday season can be especially difficult for grieving people.  Although grief has no time limit and can be incredibly sad, hope is always possible.  The event will include:
  •  a video presentation with practical advice
  •  a Holiday Survival Guide with ideas and devotions
  •  refreshments and conversation with others

Marketing Presentation

Ribbon cuttingThe Marketing Team at St. John Lutheran Church on Mt. Rose recently presented plans for the future use of the church's building and facilities, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony.  The church facility, which had housed a school, includes classrooms, a gym, and outside sports fields.  These areas are now available for the community to use in conjunction with the policies and procedures established by the Marketing Team.  The church has also opened a Compassion Center, in partnership with the Lutheran Mission Society, which will assist those in need in the community.  For more info visit Church Building Usage.



                                          2017 Bible Reading Plan
St. John believes that Bible Reading is important, nourishes, and that God’s Word always has effect.  To encourage people to read their Bibles, LCMS has an online Bible Reading Plan for 2017.  Missing a day or two, or even a week, does not mean failure - the idea is to keep reading, as time permits.
